My research is on the theory of the strong coupling between single quantum emitters and a plasmonic nanocavity. I focus on the system of a gold nano-sphere of a size less than 100 nm placing on a large gold plate. The sphere and the plate are separated by a sub-nanometer layer of molecules. The electromagnetic field is strongly enhanced at the gap between the sphere and the plate, forming an optical cavity. A quantum emitter placing at the middle of the gap couple strongly to the enhanced field and coherently exchange energy with the cavity. This results in a characteristic Rabi splitting in the far-field spectrum. The study would have a significant impact on the understanding of the dynamic of single molecules at room temperature.
