Hammersmith Hospital is renowned across the world for the quality of its clinical research.

The hospital has a storied history. It was home to major breakthroughs in the treatment of heart and kidney conditions. In the 1970s, it established the world’s first teaching course on endocrine surgery and has continued to attract global leaders in this field ever since. Today, it offers a range of services, including renal, haematology, cancer and cardiology care, and is the regional specialist heart attack centre.

Hammersmith Hospital is a part of the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and is also connected to health partners around the world including the Medical Research Council (MRC), hosting their clinical services centre. The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences

 The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) has been based at the Hammersmith Hospital campus in West London since its creation in 1994. In 2017 the Medical Research Council and Imperial College London announced a joint project to build a new home for the MRC LMS on the former Cyclotron site.

The LMS pursues world-leading discovery science, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and collaboration. In 2017, work began on a new home for the LMS at White City, featuring 12,000 square metres of workspace and advanced research facilities.
