Undergraduate students can use our services three years after 31 July in the academic year in which they complete their course.

MSc & PhD students can use our services three years after 31 December in the academic year in which they complete their course.

If you are an alumnus of the Imperial College Business School, please contact the Business School Careers for information about their provision to alumni.

You can use the Careers Service Information Room, appointment systems, workshops, employer presentations and careers events just as you did as a student. Please see our supporting you pages for the latest information on Careers Service access and opening hours.

Graduating soon?

If you have graduated after April 2022, you will be among the group of students to take part in the Graduate Outcomes survey. We are required to hold accurate contact details for you including a personal email, phone number and a postal address.

Exploring your options

If you are unsure what you want to do, Career Planner (interactive careers guidance software) can help you think through the skills you really want to use in a career and then draw up a shortlist of possible career options. This software is available via the Graduate Prospects website, where you can also research Occupational Profiles covering over 400 graduate level jobs.

Access to information

The Careers Service remains open during vacations, so you can continue to use the services all year round. We tend to be very busy seeing students in the autumn and spring terms, so we encourage alumni to use the Careers Service in vacations and the summer term. The Information Room is open from 10.00 to 17.00, Monday to Friday.

The application process

We have an entire section of our website dedicated to the ins and outs of the application process. It includes general careers advice and information, such as help on the application and selection process, interview techniques and graduate recruitment.

If you need to speak to a careers consultant, you may book a phone appointment if this is more convenient than visiting us. Contact us for further help.

Recruitment

Employers welcome applications from recent graduates and often treat them in the same way as final year students. Check the employer websites for details of their procedures and deadlines. Recruitment Agencies can be helpful in your job search. Look at the local Yellow Pages or search them online at Yell.com to find smaller employers in a particular location.

JobsLive contains a large number of vacancies all year round. You can view vacancies on our website or receive an email alert by registering . You can enter your preferred profile for vacancies and receive alerts by industry sector, subject areas, or geographical location. In addition once registered you will also receive receive a regular information bulletin about Careers events - such as skills workshops, employer presentations, careers talks and courses.

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation is the professional body representing the private recruitment industry in the UK, and has a geographically searchable database of recruitment consultancies in the UK.

Some employers target Imperial College for experienced Alumni, with several years working experience. You can search for vacancies advertised on JobsLive that that they are looking for experienced graduates.

Networking

Networking is often a useful tool in developing your career. Many jobs are not advertised so networking can put you in touch with this hidden job market. Finding a contact with knowledge about an industry, company or job can save valuable time and increase your understanding of the post that you are applying for.

Alumni associations are a great way to meet new people and provide their members with plenty of opportunities for networking. Imperial has alumni associations all over the world who will be pleased to welcome you.

As a recent Imperial alum, you can access the same range of appointments that current Imperial students can.

If you have graduated from Imperial within the last three years and would like to ask some brief questions and feel that you don't need a full 40 Minute Consultation then please email your query to us. A Careers Consultant relevant to your department will respond to you within three working days.

When submitting your question please give as much background information as possible as this will assist the careers adviser to provide the most relevant response.
