Learn about the key features of Office 365 and how it can help you with your work.

Office Online

work flexiblyOffice online brings your favourite office applications online. Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint can all be accessed from your web browser without the need to install applications but with limited functionality, making it easier to work flexibly and then collaborate with others.

OneDrive for Business

OneDrive for BusinessOneDrive for Business offers 5TB of cloud storage, allowing you to access your files and documents wherever you have an internet connection.

Files can be saved and shared online to be accessed from any device, so you and your contacts can work on them together. Documents, spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides can all be edited at the same time by multiple collaborators. You can also sync files locally to a PC or Mac drive for offline working or storage. Find out more by visiting our OneDrive for Business web page.

Collaborate using groups

Collaborate with others iconOutlook groups, Teams and Yammer all allow you to work collaboratively with your colleagues. Shared inboxes and calendars, instant messaging and college-wide conversation make it easier for you to collaborate with one another. Visit our collaborating with Office 365 web page for more information.

Work securely

SecureICT has studied and tested Office 365 to ensure the same or enhanced security levels are in line with our other data storage options.  Imperial has contracted with Microsoft for secure storage of data within the European Union, subject to EU laws and regulations.

The Office 365 contract was developed by Microsoft and Jisc, UK higher and further education organisation for digital services and solutions, to address specific needs of HE institutions. Microsoft have achieved a number of security qualifications for Office 365 and supply cloud-based services to the Cabinet Office and NHS. For more on Data Security and compliance see Microsoft Office 365 Compliance

All College members should adhere to the College's Information Security Policy. For more information, visit ICT's Be Secure web pages.

How is Office 365 different from previous versions?

Office 365 is different from previous versions of Microsoft Office as it allows you to access the most up-to-date applications from Microsoft. Office 365 is a cloud-based subscription paid for by the College, rather than paying for a single edition of a piece or collection of software. This means that updates and security can be easily rolled out so you can make the most of the software and know your documents are secure.
