The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) collects a range of data every year UK-wide from universities, higher education colleges and other specialist providers of higher education. This data is then provided to different UK government departments and higher education funding bodies to support their work in regulating and funding higher education providers. In addition, information derived from the data is published as official statistics and in many accessible formats for use by a wide range of organisations and individuals for a variety of purposes, including higher education providers, academic researchers, students, prospective students, private companies, professional bodies and the press and media.

HESA is a charitable company operating under a statutory framework on behalf of the funding councils and UK government departments. Further information is available on the HESA website.

Every year the College will send some of the information it holds about students and staff to HESA. HESA will use such information as described in the applicable HESA data collection notice.

All uses of HESA information must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”) and other applicable data protection legislation. You can find more information about HESA’s compliance with data protection legislation on the HESA data protection pages.

Under the GDPR you have the right to request access to your information held by HESA. You also have the right to request rectification of incorrect information. To exercise these data protection rights you need to contact the HESA Data Protection Officer (information on the right).
