Junyi Lee Structured Energy Absorbing Materials for Aerospace Applications

Energy absorbing materials possess excellent mechanical properties such as high strength, low density and ideally high stiffness while having the ability to reduce vibrations over a range of frequencies and absorb large quantities of energy without plastic deformation.

These materials may be used as core materials for sandwich structures commonly found in aerospace applications. Suitable materials will be identified for energy absorption applications, methods to optimise topology and microstructures of the cellular materials and modelling of the macroscopic behaviour of the materials will be performed in this project to add to the existing knowledge and understanding of such materials.
