Michael Kaye Residual Stress Control and Detecting Method for Large Aluminum-Alloy Parts

Residual stress arises due to mismatch in strains and is the self-equilibrating internal stress existing in a free body when no external tractions are applied. Residual stresses can become apparent when the component has an unexpectedly short in-service life or distortion after material removal.
