There are six weeks until you start your Full-Time MBA and whilst hopefully you are excited, you may also be a touch apprehensive. Well no fear, we have put together a few of our top tips to help you ease into your new life as an MBA student.
1. Leave work well
Many of you will be finishing at work over the next few days and weeks. Take a moment to drop a note to say thank you to those who have managed, mentored and supported you. Not only is it the right thing to do, but you may be asking them for references, introductions and advice going forward.
2. Pre-study modules
We have carefully developed your pre-study modules to ensure they set you up well for the MBA. They will help you to get back into studying and if you are a bit rusty on your maths or your finance terms, they will really help to bring you up to speed.
Many students in the past have felt that completing the primers has given them more confidence in the classroom, including Patrick De Barr, Full-Time MBA 2017-18, who studied medicine, practised as a doctor and worked in the pharmaceutical industry pre-MBA.
I had a very limited understanding of business as you can imagine just having dealt with the medical world, but I had an understanding of what it’s like to work in a commercial business. So the primer modules prepared me for the course really well.
Find something interesting to read this summer. Maybe something a little bit different from what you would normally read. The Financial Times Best Business Book listings will give you some great suggestions, and help you brush up on your business acumen before joining the programme.
4. Life admin
If you are moving homes or even countries, there is so much to do. Try to take care of the important things before the programme starts. The pace of the programme in the early weeks is such that you don’t want to be apartment hunting or trying to get your WiFi sorted. Instead, spend the time getting to know your classmates and starting your modules.

Enjoy the summer and spend time with family and friends. This is the most important of our tips, make sure you are well rested and ready to go!
