Andrea Solana (Full-Time MBA 2014) shares how she moved from Washington DC to London for her MBA, and how the programme helped her develop a new part of the business for a wealth management company.
With a degree in Finance and Management, Andrea joined a Washington DC-based international tax and global wealth management firm in 2005. After eight years providing advisory services to US expatriates abroad and foreign nationals living in the US, Andrea decided to relocate to London to commence a Full-Time MBA at Imperial College Business School. Aiming to build on her technical business skills and develop out-of-the-box thinking, Andrea was drawn to the programme’s entrepreneurship and innovation focus.
The programme was able to provide Andrea with the valuable language and tools necessary in order to be successful within the business world. For her final consulting project, Andrea approached MASECO Private Wealth, a wealth management advisory firm, to undertake a piece of consultancy examining the possibility of adding a new offering to their services . Off the back of the project, Andrea was offered an advanced planning position with the company to help build on the findings from her report.
As Head of Advanced Planning, Andrea has been able to establish a new segment of the business using her entrepreneurship and strategic thinking skills acquired through the MBA programme. She now provides wealth planning engagements for clients, while ensuring the company’s wealth managers are kept up-to-date with legislation changes and planning opportunities.
Andrea is involved in developing a women’s group with other female MBA alumni to celebrate the success of women in business, in addition to mentorship and career development for younger alumni.
