We are delighted to share that Imperial College Business School’s Global Online MBA has been ranked second in the world and first in the UK in the annual QS Online MBA Rankings 2020.

This is the second year in a row that we have held this position in the world, and third year in a row that we have been ranked first in the UK.

Professor Francisco Veloso, Dean of the Business School, said: “At a time when every business and university is realising the vital importance of moving online and the number of schools offering such programmes is growing, today's news is proof that Imperial College Business School, with its award-winning Edtech Lab, is already at the front – and has been for some time.”

World-class faculty, teaching and employability

In the QS Online MBA ranking criteria, our Global Online MBA programme scored highest for our world-class faculty and teaching, and employability, placing second in the world for both. Commenting on our scoring, Markus Perkmann, Academic Director of the MBA Suite said:

Our scoring in faculty and teaching is a wonderful recognition of the high academic standards we have worked so hard to build online; the latter (employability) is a testament to the close alignment between our teaching and the skills the global jobs market values.

To improve our student’s employability, our approach is that professional development first has to happen from within. The Personal Leadership Journey (PLJ) is a dedicated careers track led by Imperial College Business School Careers that runs for the duration of the programme.

Ayo Adegbiji, Careers Consultant and Careers co-lead for the Global Online MBA said:

The Personal Leadership Journey is focused on supporting students to realise personal transformation and emerge from the Global Online MBA programme more successful. Underpinned by a three-fold focus – improving self-awareness, increasing leadership capabilities and executing successful career transition strategies – the Personal Leadership Journey continues to deliver impactful career outcomes to students year-on-year.

Within four months of graduation, our class of 2018 reported a 32% average salary increase, 67% of students changed roles and 22% changed location.

Adegbiji said: “Our Global Online MBA students are resolute in their resolve to achieve successful outcomes, take ownership of their career journey and optimise the professional and personalised career transition support available through the versatile Imperial College Business School Careers offering.”

Global Online MBA alumnus Chukwuka Akpenyi, class of 2018, is one of the students who used the programme to realise his career goals. Upon completion of the programme, he was promoted from Drilling Engineering Leader to Digital Transformation Technology Business Development Manager at Schlumberger. Chukwuka said:

“With 13 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, I was hungry for change. My hope was that the MBA would take me away from core drilling engineering and into line management or business development, as well as empower me to build a startup. Right after the MBA, I was selected to be part of the Schlumberger Digital Transformation global team. My current team is essentially an intra-organisational startup tasked with building and deploying sustainable break-through digital collaboration solutions for the oil and gas industry, and yes, my skills, knowledge and network from the MBA programme are of immense value.”
