October is nearly here and I’m sure many of you are getting ready to start your adventure at Imperial College Business School. So what am I doing before the start of term and what tips do I have to give?
Well, as I’ve been a Londoner my whole life I may not have tips to you help you move, however I can provide you with some opportunities to start thinking about for when you get here!
- Check extra-curricular courses: The more things you try out the more you may find you enjoy and increase the variety of experiences and skills you possess. Whilst scouring the programme handbook I found out that on the side of our programmes we can apply for evening classes. Many of these are language classes, however you’d be surprised what they have on offer. Perhaps Music Technology is your thing, or, as we are in London’s most prestigious science and technology University, you could even take up a course on Psychology and Neuroscience.
- Scout through the societies: One of my personal favourite sports used to be Badminton. Sadly, after graduating from school I haven’t really played it since. This year I am completely determined to join the Badminton society, both to release stress and (hopefully) kick-start a healthy life style. I was astounded by the sheer variety of clubs in Imperial, both subject-related and recreational. I hope to see some of you on the badminton court, I won’t go easy on you!
- Apply for positions: While we still have some time until the beginning of term you could try applying for some committee positions, student ambassador roles or for assisting in the next student-led event. Firstly, it’s good practice for when you’re going to be applying for jobs soon and secondly it’s great experience in leading, team work and you get to make a difference for others.
I’m sure there are plenty of things you can find to get involved in to enhance your experience at Imperial, you just need to go out and find them. See you in October!
