Professor Jonathan Haskel has been appointed as a non-executive member of the UK Statistics Authority Board. The board oversees the UK government statistical system and aims to promote and safeguard the production and publication of official statistics that serve the public good.
Sir Andrew Dilnot CBE, Chair of the UK Statistics Authority, said of the appointment, “I am delighted to welcome Jonathan Haskel as a non-executive member of the UK Statistics Authority. Jonathan brings a wealth of professional experience in economics and independent regulation which will be of great benefit to us all on the UK Statistics Authority Board. I am very much looking forward to working with Jonathan.”
As well as promoting official statistics, the Authority’s statutory objective is to promote and safeguard the quality and comprehensiveness of official statistics, and ensure good practice in relation to official statistics.
Professor Haskel said of the news, ‘I’m honoured to be appointed to the UK Statistics Authority Board, and delighted to join another Imperial Professor, Professor David Hand, on the Board. High quality statistics are vital to democracy and informed public debate and I hope I can help the Board’s work in delivering ever-better data and information.’
Professor Haskel has been Professor of Economics at the Business School since 2008, and is also Chair in Economics at the School. He has also been a member of the Financial Conduct Authority Competition Decisions Committee and the Payment System Regulator Enforcement and Competition Decisions Committee since September 2015.
