On the 9th of March, Tandem, one of Imperial’s newest societies, held its launch. Tandem is made of up a team of six men and women who believe that gender equality is one of the most important issues facing businesses and that the time for solutions to gender inequality is now.
Clara, Isabella, Arnaud, Anna, Felix and Jenny believe that gender equality can be achieved only if men and women work together. As such Tandem is an inclusive society for both men and women who believe that gender equality is something which will benefit both sexes.
Paul Duffy, CEO and Chairman of Absolut echoed this need for a collaborative approach, when he spoke at Tandem’s launch. Paul spoke about the power of branding and pivots within movements. He believed that involving men in the conversation and in the solutions to gender inequality was a massive pivot that the movement needed.
It was inspiring to hear a male leader say that things need to change and to hear about the different ways in which he was trying to create change within his own organisation.
Tandem are planning a large-scale Panel Discussion in May where they will be inviting a range of high-profile individuals, some of whom support initiatives to promote gender equality and others who see certain gender equality initiatives as too much of a burden on employers.
Tandem will also be organising a number of conferences with different corporates to get a better understanding of what they are doing to make their organisations more gender equal, whether that be top-down or bottom-up.
Tandem hopes that by organising these conferences and discussions that ideas can be shared and developed which may someday be used by different companies and professionals to establish gender equality as the norm, and not the exception.
