Imperial College Business School continues its commitment to supporting the transition of women into senior leadership roles with the award of two 30% Club scholarships of £20,000 each to exceptional female Executive MBA candidates with a track record of acting as role models for other women.
As well as the financial scholarship from the Business School, successful applicants will have access to the 30% Club, which works towards achieving 30% female membership of boards in FTSE 100 companies. One of the benefits of 30% Club membership is its flagship cross-company mentoring scheme which was launched in 2013.
Diane Morgan, Associate Dean of Programmes at Imperial College Business School, said, “We know that having more women in leadership roles will have a long-term positive impact on business.
“There is an under-representation of women pursuing post-graduate management education and this has a knock-on effect on the number of women who hold senior director roles within corporations and therefore ultimately Board positions in FTSE100 companies.
“As well as helping two exceptional women to pursue their business education goals, it will also have a wider impact on women in the world of business.”
Last year, the 30% Club scholarship was presented to Julie Driscoll, Portfolio Director at the i2i Events Group, and Jennifer Chung, Senior Manager, Programme and Project Management at Accenture.
Julie Driscoll has over 12 years’ experience leading UK and international teams and has promoted flexible working options to female staff including support for staff returning from maternity leave.
Julie said, “I’ve always been passionate about women being able to achieve their dreams in business and this award aligns with my desire for workplaces to be more inclusive, dynamic and creative.”
Fellow scholarship winner Jennifer Chung’s expertise is in technology consultancy, business development and project management. She champions greater diversity, particularly in empowering young women to aim for senior leadership positions in the innovation and technology sector.
Jennifer said, “For me, this is a launch pad to inspire and journey alongside other women as we all work together to bring greater diversity and strength into leadership.”
As 30% Club scholarship winners, Julie and Jennifer also participate in the group’s cross-company mentoring scheme. In October 2016, they joined 1,200 fellow mentees and mentors at an event at Central Hall in Westminster to launch the scheme’s fourth year.
Julie and Jennifer heard talks from a high profile panel of speakers including Brenda Trenowden, 30% Club Global Chair and Head of Institutions at ANZ Europe, and Helena Morrissey, 30% Club Founder and Chair of Newton Investment Management.
The event closed with a networking reception with Chairs, CEOs and leaders from more than 60 major organisations including Cisco, Mastercard, EY, Slaughter and May, Marks & Spencer, BNY Mellon and Santander.
