On Friday 27th May, 20 energetic Imperial College Business School students and I made the journey to Vodafone’s UK headquarters for the first Vodafone Trek Day.

The main purpose of the London Trek program was to give the chance for Imperial College MSc students to learn how professional skills are applied in a working environment and improve both problem-solving skills and presentations skills. Not only was the Trek a chance to connect with Imperial College alumni and Vodafone professionals, it also helped us immerse in the company culture and hear about the industry and business operations.

Vodafone did make it challenging for us though, when they enhanced our learning and encouraged us to put into practice all the skills we learned throughout our Masters program. We had a workshop where teams had to develop an idea under aggressive timescales…just like we would experience in the corporate environment. Before the big day, we had to understand what was meant by the term ‘digital manifesto’, because the better our understanding, the more competitive we could be throughout the day.

During the workshop, we presented four pledges between Vodafone and Imperial College Business school to show how lives can be enhanced through technology. Whether the pledges were for commercial impact or for social responsibility, Imperial College MSc students had to be creative and fast thinkers to present their messages. The day ended on a positive note with lunch and the chance to get career advice from professionals and alumni.

Thanks to Vodafone for an exciting day and a change from the classroom environment, and thanks to our Employer Relations team for organising a challenging yet interesting event.
