In June, four Management students arrived in Paris to attend their two-week summer school programs at HEC. Two of us took the Luxury Management course, and the other two took the International Finance module. Needless to say, it was quite the experience. We made friends from all around the world, had the opportunity to enjoy the city of Paris, and managed to cram a lot of learning into two weeks.

Luxury Management Camille Ng, MSc Management 2015-16

I absolutely loved this course. As I am hoping to pursue a career in the luxury industry, it was right up my street! We were taught everything from digital strategy to retail management, by inspiring tutors who had a wealth of experience in the industry, having worked for companies including Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Sephora. It was fascinating to learn about their past projects and thoughts on the future. The highlight of this course was our final project of recommending a strategy to create seamlessness between online and offline sales platforms for chosen companies. My team analysed Christian Dior’s sales platforms, which involved a field trip to visit its flagship stores in Paris – such a fun and unique experience. On weekends, we enjoyed some retail therapy, café culture and delicious French food in the heart of Paris (Les Galopins in Bastille is phenomenal). I was sad to leave at the end! Paris is one of my favourite places in the world, and I am very grateful to have studied a subject I am so passionate about.

International Finance Sufjan Doula, MSc Management 2015-16

We arrived at St Pancras to set off for an adventurous exchange at HEC. (We already had a mini-adventure when we spent twenty minutes walking in the wrong direction trying to find our hotel, on the first evening!) The next day we travelled to HEC, which is 30km outside Paris. That day, we started our course and met many interesting people from all over the world. After having the first lecture in international finance with the amazing professor Laurent Jacque from Tufts university in Boston, we realised that this is probably not going to be a walk in the park. Indeed, the course was very demanding and we spent most of our time studying, but also working in amazing teams on challenging projects. It is incredible how much we learnt in the two weeks, ranging from corporate finance, cross-border M&A valuation to foreign exchange systems, securitisation and derivatives. I think I can speak for everybody, that we found friends we will keep in touch with for our whole life. I am very thankful to Imperial College that they have launched such an invaluable cooperation with HEC and I am glad we had this opportunity that broadened our horizons!

Overall, we highly recommend opting for a study abroad opportunity at HEC. It was an extremely valuable experience for all of us, and truly opened our eyes to the subjects we chose.
