Dr. Dermot Nolan, Honorary Practice Fellow
Dermot Nolan recently stepped down as CEO of OFGEM (the UK regulator of gas and electricity markets) in March 2020. Prior to that, he was first Commissioner and then the CEO of the Irish energy regulator. He also held senior positions with the Irish communication regulator, as well as the competition authority.
Dermot is an economist by training, having received a first degree in economics (Trinity College) and well as a PhD in economics (Yale). He also started his career as an academic (he was assistant professor of economics at Royal Holloway) and wrote in that period academic papers in Industrial Organization (specifically on how capital structure influences pricing, and on predatory pricing).
