Welcome event at the Natural History Museum

End of a term? Seriously?? I mean, we just came. Time flies here. It’s slowly beginning to feel like home. People seem more familiar; bonds are getting stronger. I’m witnessing the colours of autumn for the first time ever and it’s beautiful. Christmas trees are already being set up and I recently attended my first ever Halloween party. We had a welcome reception party at the Natural History Museum. Yes!! Party in a museum! It was an amazing evening with music, drinks and over a thousand students amidst the ‘dinosaurs’. Sounds like a holiday, doesn’t it? But wait, that’s just because I haven’t mentioned the numerous upcoming assignments, presentations, career events and quizzes.

Life has changed in so many big ways. In addition to these there is one change that is subtler than the others but perhaps the most significant and that is being associated with the Imperial College brand name. I felt the change for the first time when my cousin who’s been in London for over a decade introduced me to her neighbour. My name was followed by a line ‘She’s doing her MBA at Imperial College.’ and I saw the expression in the lady’s eyes change to this soft ‘wow’ expression. And at the risk of sounding boastful I see a similar expression every time my sister introduces me to someone new. There’s always a slight sense of pride in my sister’s voice and yes, it makes me feel good. But it’s also accompanied with a feeling of responsibility of being associated with the name and sometimes also with a secret little prayer in my head saying ‘I hope I survive this MBA!’
