Executive Leadership Journey

The Executive Leadership Journey (ELJ) module has three key aims: deepening your self-awareness as a leader, expanding your leadership toolbox and supporting you in building a fulfilling career.  As part of your Executive Leadership Journey, you will complete psychometrics on your personality, strengths and conflict style to support your self-awareness, leadership and career development. After debriefing the psychometrics that include a 360-feedback element, we challenge you to work on leveraging and broadening your leadership style over the module. The results are debriefed with your assigned Executive Coach and in class to help you reflect, build a plan and develop your career strategy. Your Executive Coach then works with you to explore your options, so you can define your career strategy. We offer six one-to-one Executive Coaching sessions to work on your leadership and career development throughout the module, supporting you to achieve your goals.

Class sessions also specifically focus on developing your leadership style, coaching & feedback skills for leading in a digital world, handling conflict and presenting with impact. These class sessions complement the Faculty-taught Responsible Leadership course that focuses on strategic leadership and the challenges strategic leaders face trying to lead in a responsible manner. The Executive Coaching programme can then be used to work on any individual reflections, actions and challenges that come from the class sessions.

You will participate in group coaching sessions with your peers, facilitated by Executive Coaches. Themes can range from developing your coaching skills as a senior manager, experiencing group coaching and facilitating feedback from groups.

Our blended communications skills training will help you to think about what you want your audience to think, feel and do before, during and after your presentations and meetings. You will learn about applying storytelling and audience-centric design principles. We share some fundamental principles, models and approaches and bring to the class insights from key practitioners that will join our class to help you present with impact.  We provide you with opportunities to practice a key business presentation, a personal leadership story or career pitch to support your leadership, career development and networking.

At the ELJ Retreat you will have the opportunity to come together with your peers and recognise your individual journeys so far & reflect on your next steps for your career strategy with some experienced practitioners and guests who will join us. At the end of the ELJ Retreat, you will have:

1. Explored the importance of a learning and leadership mindset as you plan ahead, to prepare for obstacles and challenges.

2. Reflected on the stage of your individual leadership and career transition with peers, to help inform your career strategy and next steps.

3. Practised telling your story, applying the storytelling and audience-centric design principles developed earlier in the module. This session also aims to help you raise your awareness of your verbal and non-verbal communication, practice sharing your career story with peers and build a deeper, supportive relationship with your peers.

What our student say

“The Executive MBA changes your thought process – you are armed with frameworks that guide your approach to challenges and opportunities in the workplace. Also, because a lot of the teaching is case-based, you are able to apply your learnings to specific real-life scenarios. I have also been surprised by the extra detail that the Executive MBA goes into – so even with subjects that I thought I knew quite well, there was always a learning point to enhance my knowledge.”
