Your time at Imperial College Business School

Why did you choose to study your programme and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?

My decision to pursue an MBA programme was driven by the desire to accelerate my career by building the business acumen on top of my technology background. Imperial College Business School was the top choice because of its exceptional brand value, comprehensive curriculum, and diversity within the cohort. Being located in the heart of London, coupled with one of the strongest careers department, it was the perfect launch-pad for a sustainable career growth.

What was the most important learning point you took with you from the Business School?

I learned the importance of building a personal brand that in turn helps you build a strong network. Imperial gives you the best opportunity for this starting from your immediate cohort, world-class professors, networking opportunities with prospective employers, access to alumni and other areas of the Imperial campus and community.

What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same programme as you?

It is important to find a healthy balance between the quantity and quality of opportunities that one gets involved during the 1-year programme. The Business School MBA programme provides you with one of the most rewarding experiences and opportunities. Hence, it is useful to have a good grasp on your main objectives to help prioritise, given the limited amount of time resource.

What was the most surprising thing about the programme?

How much of an impact can this 1-year have on your life! The quality and quantity of learning was remarkable. I came out with a wealth of experience and life-long friends.

Tell us about your current job

How was your career transformed following your programme?

It has had a tremendous impact on my career path and continues to influence my career. I was able to find my desired role and employer only through the experiences, learning and network I developed through the programme, and I continue to apply those learnings to my work everyday.

How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge you gained during the programme within your career going forward?

The skills and knowledge are built during the MBA in the same environment as one finds in a job. You are working towards real objectives in a limited period of time, working within a cross-functional team. Hence, It has been easy for me to apply these skills in my career. I am able to draw from my experiences at Imperial, and employ them in my current role.

What do you enjoy most about your current work and what are the main challenges that you face?

I enjoy working on business problems that have a real impact on society. I feel fortunate to work with exceptionally talented and like-minded co-workers and clients. The ongoing pandemic has introduced challenges of isolation, but we have been quick to adapt with efforts that have brought the community closer.

What is your proudest achievement in the job so far?

Mentoring young staff members and watching them succeed.

Alumni community

In what way is remaining connected to your alumni network important to you?

It has been important to be connected with my alumni network both professionally and personally. We built strong and meaningful relationships all throughout our cohort. I would love to continue supporting and receive support from my MBA friends and community.

Have you volunteered at the Business School since you graduated? If so, why do you feel it’s important to volunteer your time and experience?

I have volunteered at the Business School in multiple talks and networking sessions.
