Induction and on campus

The Global Online MBA is primarily delivered in an online format through The Hub, however, on campus elements form an important component of both the learning and network building components of the programme.

The on campus components consist of compulsory and non-compulsory elements.

The Induction Week was amazing and I loved being on-campus for the week. I feel like I've really immersed myself in the unique experience.

Induction week

Your first week of the Global Online MBA programme will be spent at our South Kensington Campus in London, where you will meet with the rest of your cohort, faculty and teaching/programme staff.

This five-day induction will lay the foundations of your Global Online MBA experience. As well as a programme introduction, you will partake in several taster lectures, discussions and exercises to give you a taste for the Global Online MBA.

Sessions with the Business School’s Careers & Professional Development team also form a key part of induction week. The Careers & Professional Development team work with you throughout the programme, helping you to develop a plan and the skills necessary to achieve your career goals.

This week also provides ample opportunity to network and meet your Global Online MBA classmates. As well as undertaking the formal components of the induction week with your classmates, you will also have plenty of time to meet and understand your classmates outside of the classroom through various activities and meals. Further to this, you will meet your Syndicate team for the first year of the Global Online MBA, who will play a significant role in your learning.

On campus electives

As a Global Online MBA student, you have the option of attending up to two face-to-face electives in your second year if they are not offered online. This allows you to visit the Business School on a regular basis and blend your learning with your primarily online delivery. You will also have the opportunity to work with students from across Imperial’s MBA suite, further building your network.

Taking an on campus elective was very effective as it allowed me to learn in a different way to online. Being able to mix with students from different Imperial MBA programmes was also a valuable networking exercise.

The Capstone Business Game

Alongside a series of lectures on innovation, design and entrepreneurship, you will take part in a unique business game simulation where you will analyse the innovative needs of a large multinational and develop a business case for the company to grow.

The Game plays out over a seven day period at our South Kensington Campus. As well as the practical learning element, this is another chance to strengthen your connections within your cohort. You will work in groups with students who have complementary skills and experience to you, allowing for a broader perspective.

The London experience

Imperial’s proximity to the City of London, the capital’s financial and business hub, means that we have close partnerships and strong connections with many of the world’s top companies, who benefit from our research excellence.

This exchange culture provides you with a unique opportunity to expand your network with other senior professionals at top global organisations. You’ll meet your global cohort during Induction Week in London. With an intense itinerary, this week will provide you with the foundations for success in your studies. You’ll also build on these relationships in year two when you undertake the Capstone Business Game in London.

If you’re based in the city or are visiting, as a Business School student you will also be able to access campus facilities such as the gym and library. You can also choose up to two on-campus electives and attend any guest lectures and events on offer to MBA students.

The reputation of Imperial is exceptional and having a lifetime link to the College was important for me. I also wanted a programme that was in London so I could visit the College occasionally, get involved in clubs, and meet other students and lecturers when I wanted to,
