Programme: Global Online MBA
Undergraduate education: Bacherlor’s and Master’s in Civil Engineering, Ryerson University
Job role: Principal Associate, Digital Servicing and Operations Lead, Capital One
My background is in engineering and science. After graduation, I worked for two years in engineering and, in 2013, changed to the Financial Services industry. Since then, I have been working at Capital One Canada in a number of different roles, starting in Marketing Operations and moving to a digital role in our Partnership portfolios.
In my current role at Capital One Canada, I was appointed as part of a select group to work on the launch of Saks Fifth Avenue’s credit programme in Canada. It was an extremely exciting project and I learned a lot. Right now, I’m working with a cross-functional team on launching a new online banking platform for our Costco portfolio of over 2 million active customers. It is definitely a great time to be in digital.
Proudest achievement in business
I have always been passionate about talent development and mentorship. Four years ago I launched a Women in Leadership seminar series at Capital One Canada. The event was started with the objective of empowering our associates, especially women, to be impactful leaders and to be the best version of themselves. The programme was definitely one of my proudest moments. There was no better feeling than reading everyone’s positive feedback and hearing the impact the event had on our associates.
Proudest achievement in life
I was really proud on the day I received my Imperial MBA admission. However, if I had to pick one, it would definitely be when I was part of a small group that raised funds to financially support the lives of five children in the Middle East. It was powerful to see the impact every dollar had on a child’s life.
A global perspective
For the type of leader I aspire to be, I knew there were skills that an MBA could equip me with and I needed to build a strong foundation in business and finance. As business in today’s world is global, and it’s my long term goal to launch a business across Europe and North America, it is very important for me to have a more global perspective. I also got to a point in my career and personal life that I really felt the need to spend some time outside work on my development as a leader. I had this desire to learn more from people with different backgrounds and perspectives.
An impressive cohort
The most rewarding part of the programme is the cohort! Within one week of Induction we all built such great friendships and what an impressive group we have! We are from 28 different countries and I’m still in awe of how great they are.
The Imperial MBA is unique
Imperial has a strong brand globally and one of the best faculties in the world. By bringing together technology, entrepreneurship and business, the Imperial MBA is very unique. Being located in London, Imperial is close to one of Europe’s largest start-up communities. For students with an entrepreneurial mindset, it provides a great perspective and network.
Another thing which makes Imperial College Business School unique to me is the faculty and staff. They truly care about every student and this was something I noticed from early on in my admission process. I know that being part of Imperial community means I will always have the support of an amazing network.
