Studying MSc Finance & Accounting
Why did you choose to study MSc Finance & Accounting and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?
In addition to studying at one of the world’s leading universities, the programme structure and content were particularly convincing to me. The programme gives a solid foundation in financial theory but also leaves room to tailor the programme to personal interests through the broad range of elective modules.
What was the most important thing you took with you from the Business School?
The most essential part of studying at Imperial College Business School was engaging with extremely smart people from a range of different backgrounds and cultures. Working, studying and socialising with them is what made my time at Imperial unique.
What was the most surprising thing about the programme?
I was pleasantly surprised by the broad range of opportunities which Imperial College Business School offers in addition to the programme modules. These include expert talks, networking events and drink receptions at various places. Additionally, many great events are organised by the clubs and societies, which are run by students.
Career & professional development
How was your career transformed following your programme?
The completion of the programme provided access to job opportunities which were out of reach before studying at Imperial College Business School. In addition, I can apply the technical skills I acquired during the programme at work which contributes to professional success.
How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge you gained during the programme within your career going forward?
During my time at the Business School, I acquired a solid understanding of financial theory and the finance environment in general. As this knowledge is required across all career stages, it will certainly be of great use in my career in the finance industry.
What do you enjoy most about your current work and what are the main challenges that you face?
I truly enjoy being part of a global platform at DC Advisory working on interesting M&A opportunities for our clients. As every project is different, new challenges appear frequently. As I work on projects in multiple sectors, a key challenge is to understand the specifics of each sector. However, it is a very rewarding experience to develop an overview of a certain sector and the key players active in it.
The alumni network
In what way is remaining connected to your alumni network important to you?
The people I met during the programme now live and work at places around the world. It is very interesting to learn about the next steps in their lives and careers through an international dialogue. Also, when I am traveling, it is great to meet up with alumni in foreign cities.
Advice for future students
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same Business School programme as you?
In addition to studying and preparing for exams I suggest to also allow for time to engage with fellow students off-campus. London is the perfect city to have a great time!
