Studying MSc Finance

Why did you choose to study your programme and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?

Imperial is one of the top rated business schools in the world. I knew firsthand that Goldman Sachs and other leading banks hired from Imperial College Business School.

What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same programme as you?

The programme is expensive, but even as someone no longer in the finance sector I have made my money back and then some. I learnt so much from the course and it has excellent employment prospects for graduates. You also meet a lot of highly motivated and incredibly talented people at the Business School which was amazing.

Living in London

How did you find living in London?

London is a fantastic city. I had lived in London for a few years before studying and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the capital. You have access to an incredible number of opportunities in terms of jobs, networking and startups.

The Imperial community

What was the Business School community like?

The Business School is a great community and you get to know everyone really well. Everyone on the course feels some of the pressure of completing a demanding course alongside trying to plan and apply for future roles, so you’re in it together. The advice from the careers service was really useful and I attended mock interviews, which really helped me prepare and land my graduate role at Morgan Stanley.

Career & professional development

What do you enjoy most about your work and what are the main challenges that you face?

As the founder of AccountingHub.io, the development side comes easily to me. Going out and calling customers and marketing the business is a lot harder. Fortunately, I’m now working with a co-founder who has a great marketing background. I love solving problems and helping our clients better use technology. The challenges constantly change but you have to learn to manage them and prioritise what you work on. AccountingHub.io has recently joined the Entrepreneurial Spark program, so we get a lot of advice from other companies in similar situations.

The alumni network

In what way is remaining connected to your alumni network important to you? What value do you get out of your connections with the Business School and your fellow alumni?

I attend at least two alumni events per year to try and keep in touch with fellow alumni, including a recent drinks reception at City Hall in London. It is incredible to see what other people are doing with their careers and discuss ideas or projects with them. Alumni events are really important to me and are a great way to expand my network which is crucial to my business.
