Studying MSc Finance
Why did you choose to study MSc Finance at Imperial College Business School?
I was attracted to the programme by its apparent complexity and the challenge of trying to understand its working mechanisms. I was also aware of the reputation of Imperial College Business School and was confident that gaining a Master’s from the Business School would be a great starting point for my future career.
The programme was exactly as I expected it to be – a high standard course with top level teachers and all within an amazing environment. Finance is a huge area where people can get easily lost. Thanks to the MSc Finance programme and to the advice of experienced professionals, I have found the job that fits my skills, motivation and passion.
What was a typical day at the Business School like?
The day began at 9.00 with the first lecture. At midday we used to all gather around the cafeteria and enjoy the break by checking emails or surfing on the web on the computers that are available. The next lecture began at 13.00. After lectures finished at 17.00, we used to go to Ethos, Imperial College’s gym, or have a drink with friends, take advantage of the library facilities and do some work, or go for a walk around South Kensington.
Life as a student in London
How have you found living and studying in London?
Living and studying in London is one of the most interesting experiences I have had so far. Here, you work in a fast moving environment with highly motivated and experienced people from different cultures and backgrounds. Wherever you are in London you will meet people who achieved their dreams because they were fully passionate about what they did. I found that this pushed me further and helped me to reach my own goals.
At the beginning I found it quite hard to manage the balance between study and life. I had to catch up on the work I hadn’t done during the summer because my internship only ended in September. But day by day it started getting better. I began meeting new people from all around the world, and enjoying London with its many pubs, museums, unusual places and above all its many different people.
Every day I’ve spent in London has been different but I have enjoyed them all. Even if you have a hard day there is always something that will make you smile and feel happy to be here. That’s why I love London!
Advice for future students
What advice would you give to someone considering MSc Finance at the Business School?
Make sure that finance fits your career expectations. The programme is heavily loaded in mathematics and a strong knowledge of statistics and probabilities is definitely a plus. If you fill these two requirements, this programme will provide you with all the skills you need to plan a career in investment banking.
