MSc International Health Management 2010
Programme: MSc International Health Management 2010
Employment before studying at the Business School: Associate Scientist
Employment after studying at the Business School: Consultant in International Development
Why did you choose to study MSc International Health Management and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?
Coming from the pharmacology / healthcare sector, I chose MSc International Health Management because of its international component and focus on healthcare. I was also drawn to it as some of the modules covered general business topics such as strategic management, marketing, entrepreneurship and project management. For me it was the best alternative to an MBA.
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same Business School programme as you?
Be ready to come out of your comfort zone as the MSc International Health Management programme will challenge you to think strategically. The programme also involves fun activities like role plays and presentations which I found particularly interesting. A prospective student should be a good team player as part of the assessment is based on participation and group course work. It is also important to make use of every opportunity to network and find out about what people are doing. This will help inform whichever career path you take after the programme.
What is your fondest memory from your time at the Business School? / What do you miss most from your days at the Business School?
I particularly enjoyed working with my group. I miss them all. My best memory involved a role play on an organisational behaviour topic which we presented to the rest of the class. We had such a fun time together. There are so many memories that I will treasure. In my group we supported each other and shared a common goal of achieving A grades in all our coursework.
What was the most important learning you took away with you from the Business School?
There is no substitute for hard work if you want to succeed.
How has the Business School helped develop your career?
The Business School has served to change my career path from working as a scientist to working in international development. I started work with the World Health Organisation after Business School and this has been just the right job fit for me.
What value do you get out of your Business School and alumni connections?
Thanks to the Business School I now have a broad network of friends all over the world who work in different fields and industry – I wouldn’t trade that for anything!
