After completing his undergraduate degree, Miltiadis knew he wanted to work in digital marketing, using consumer behaviour in a strategic way. The MSc in Strategic Marketing offered him the chance to develop these skills and set himself apart from others in a competitive market.
Your time at Imperial College Business School
Why did you choose to study your programme and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?
The continuous overwhelming increase in digitally oriented experiences and the current advances in marketing techniques were always the factors that fascinated me the most. After acquiring my undergraduate degree in Marketing and Management, it was clear to me that the field I wanted to enter was around digital marketing practices and ways to tackle consumer behaviour in a strategic and result oriented way.
Imperial College Business School and especially the MSc Strategic Marketing programme was my top choice at the time in order to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to specialise in my field of interest and become a respected professional in a competitive market. Imperial College London being one of the top and most renowned universities worldwide together with being located in the heart London provided me with the confidence to study and build my future there.
What was the most important learning point you took with you from the Business School?
Persistence and hard work pay off. You need to focus on your goals and tasks, build upon smaller assignments initially, so as to achieve your long-term aim. Eventually, to attain what you want you need cultivate those skills on a daily basis and persist on your initial goal. Having a plan and following it closely, will always support you to stay consistent, don’t get discouraged by the setbacks and keep yourself motivated.
Imperial consists of a great environment for people to experiment, being a place where numerous people genuinely want to help each other, so as to thrive collectively. As a student, you would merely need to ask for help and follow the respective mindset of working towards a specific path. There are so many people willing to support you going in the right direction, so make the most of each opportunity.
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same programme as you?
Leverage your professor’s knowledge, ask many questions, attend career fairs and have a clear goal upon starting your studies. There are numerous resources open to you as part of your programme, so make the most of them and find what you like the most. Having a structure with a weekly checklist will help you build upon and achieve your goal. Build your network and utilise as many of the resources that Imperial has to offer as much as possible. Share ideas and create a solid network for your future.
What was the most surprising thing about the programme?
It was surprising seeing how many of the courses related to real-life experiences. Imperial really prepares its students by building a solid structure for their future roles and career. The programme combines both theoretical and practical acumen helping build specific skills such as enhancing team working abilities and developing communication skills. Such real-life situations prepare student for their future roles aiding learning by collating theoretical together with practical knowledge.

How has your programme contributed to your career success?
The programme helped me to acquire skills and build my confidence for my current role at Nike. During my time at Imperial College Business School, we had to deliver numerous projects in a monthly basis, convey frequent presentations and work amongst other like-minded team members to accomplish challenging tasks. Such assessments were truly beneficial to me, helping me prosper in my current role.
How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge you gained during the programme within your career going forward?
Working within the digital marketing department at Nike I have already utilised several of my learnings and skills from the programme. Courses such as digital marketing and marketing analytics provided me the appropriate knowledge to acquire skills and comprehend just how a digital marketing activity operates. Additionally, several case studies and projects that were part of the programme gave me taste on how real-life businesses function. Currently, as I work within the digital spectrum of Nike, I can see the similarities between the master’s degree and the work environment in terms of specific projects.
What do you enjoy most about your current work and what are the main challenges that you face?
Working at the digital department and seeing how marketing strategies get implemented fascinate me, therefore being part of this operation of a renowned brand really appealed to me. I find it truly amazing how my day to day activities influence the analytical results of the company. Nike’s culture of building its own brand, not only externally, to their target audiences, but, also internally, to their employees, creates an environment which is truly appealing.
One of the main challenges is keeping up to the fast paced and competitive market on a daily basis. During the day you get to communicate with several stakeholders within the business to keep the operation going, while at the same time managing the long term strategies of building projects, conveying presentation, briefing agencies etc. Such activities can seem overwhelming, but countering this challenge by having a solid plan and organising your time can provide you with a clear advantage.
What is your proudest achievement in the job so far?
Owning a specific project and carrying it forward. I had to build a marketing strategic plan on how digital marketing content could come to life throughout the owned digital channels of Nike. This consisted of a wide array of tasks and required me to liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders within the company to plan and organise the project. It was a unique experience as it entailed the promotion of specific Nike footwear and apparel with a touch of creativity. Eventually seeing this project and content come to life granted confidence and delight, knowing that the end goal was something I had achieved.
In what way is remaining connected to your alumni network important to you?
Truly important! Building a network of people from my time at the Business School and maintaining it, is one of the things that makes this programme truly significant. There are always several like-minded individuals within the programme that are willing to help out even after graduation. Sharing thoughts and experiences with other alumni, aids learning experiences and helps create your unique journey.
