Employment prior to studying at the Business School: I did a year-long work placement in hospitality as well as a couple of internships in direct sales and marketing.
Employment after studying at the Business School: Sales Support Specialist, EMEA & APAC, Expedia, Inc.
Why did you choose to study your programme and why specifically at Imperial College Business School?
What appealed to me most about the programme was that it touched upon a variety of issues from both a traditional and digital perspective, whilst enabling me to put that knowledge into practice through our consulting and entrepreneurship projects in our third semester. These projects also looked great on my CV and gave me loads to talk about in my interviews with prospective employers.
I was also attracted by Imperial College’s links within the business community and the opportunity to build a valuable network of contacts by attending employer events, career fairs and guest lectures.
What advice would you give to a prospective student considering studying the same programme as you?
Consider what you want to get out of the programme and how it fits within your wider career goals. If you think Imperial is right for you, I would suggest attending some of the networking events organised by the Business School where you can speak to current students, alumni and members of staff and get a taste of what it’s like to be part of the student community.
How did you find living in London?
Living in London can be very exciting as there is always something happening, whether it is an art exhibition, film premiere or a pop up market. It’s also great for those who are at the start of their career journey and want to establish a strong network of contacts.
What was the Business School community like?
I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Business School community as it was full of ambitious people from around the world, who were extremely passionate about what they did and continuously challenged my thinking with fresh perspectives.
What was a typical day the Business School like?
Students are put into syndicate groups of six with whom they need to work with on a variety of projects. As such, my days consisted mostly of group meetings, lectures and networking events at the Business School in the evenings.
What do you enjoy most about your work and what are the main challenges that you face?
Travel tech is characterised by a hefty amount of disruption, which means that companies must be willing to continuously trial new approaches in order to better serve the end customer. The dynamic nature of the industry is what I enjoy the most as it represents a fantastic learning curve as well as an opportunity to create impact through collaboration and fresh thinking.
In what way is remaining connected to your alumni network important to you?
Thanks to Imperial I have managed to create a network of contacts on a global scale, which I believe is crucial in terms of gaining insight into different sectors, leveraging someone’s expertise into a field and even potentially collaborating in the future. It’s also great to know that I have friends in every corner of the world – makes for a great adventure next time I travel!
