Innovation for inclusive growth conference held at Imperial – Addressing social and economic development issues in ‘Energy and Environment’:
The goal of this event in April 2010 was to encourage and showcase innovation for inclusive growth and provide a forum to share opportunities and challenges in energy and environment. The explicit aim was to build on technological and managerial strengths in the UK to address social and economic challenges in less developed parts of the world.
UK-China Innovation for Sustainability and Equitable Development conference – Dr Lars Frederiksen was invited to speak at the conference in March 2010, which was co-hosted by the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy, School of Public Policy, Tsinghua University and Management, and STEPS Centre, University of Sussex Beijing. The event was supported by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for International Development. Lars presented his research on the Dongtan ecocit as well as the achievements of the Ecocit research network.
“Local Energy” Advisory Board – Dr Lars Frederiksen was invited to sit on the Advisory Board for the project “Local Energy” initiated by CTEL – the commercial arm of the Carbon Trust. This project aims to identify opportunities for facilitating the generation of energy locally, leading to a potential reduction of emissions as well as a improve efficiency in energy use. The objective of the board is to identify market opportunities and partnerships and outline potential ways to structure a sustainable business model in this domain.
Innovation in Energy Systems Symposium – Dr Ritsuko Ozaki has co-organised a symposium with the University of Tokyo’s Collaborative Research Center for Energy Engineering (CEE). This joint Symposium on Innovation in Energy Systems included: research presentations open to the public, technical tour, and round-table discussion on a collaborative research project between the two universities. The event was held in the Institute of Industrial Science in Tokyo on 24-26 September 2010.
