The Department of Finance, led by Professor Alex Michaelides, works across a number of financial areas, focusing on 4 key research areas: Investments and Asset Pricing, Corporate Finance, Finance and Risk Management and Financial Analysis. In 2013 the department also became home to the Brevan Howard Centre for Financial Analysis supported by an initial £20m donation which includes a annual research programme worth £3m running from 2013-2019. The Centre will utilise the department’s strengths and create opportunities for our research to have significant impact on financial policy and practice. We have recruited an excellent Faculty team, publishing in top finance journals and developing projects with real-world impact.
The department also leads teaching for several finance-based Master’s programmes including the MSc Finance, MSc Risk Management and Financial Engineering, MSc Investment and Wealth Management and MSc Finance and Accounting, as well as a vibrant PhD programme which make valuable contributions to the life of the Business School. By combining excellent research with world-leading Faculty and by attracting the best students, the Department of Finance aims to be the best group of its kind in Europe.
