The Diffusion, Translation and Adaptation of Design Practices in Australia

Brainstorming

Researcher: Ileana Stigliani

In collaboration with RMIT and Cass Business School, we are studying the diffusion and translation of service design and design thinking practices in Australia.

This study has two major aims:

  • Theoretically,  to gain knowledge on whether and how practices are adapted as they diffuse in contexts that are geographically distant from the practice origin.
  • Practically, we expect our investigation to contribute to a re-assessment of the state of development and effectiveness of design practices in Australia, and to indicate avenues for better management of a set of activities that have been recognised as essential to innovation and competitive advantage at a national level.
