Serial Founders and Prior Founding Experience

imperial londonResearch Team: Anu Wadhwa and A. Lahiri

Recent research has shown that serial entrepreneurs are likely to make key changes related to the external context of the venture across successive ventures they create. We extend this literature by focusing attention on the contrasting effect of prior experience on two important indicators of venture performance, the innovation outcome of the subsequent venture and its eventual market success demonstrated by a successful exit. We draw on the literature on creativity, innovation and learning, we theorize about, and empirically test, the effect of changing key contexts across successive ventures on different venture outcomes.
