Pre-exposure prophylaxis

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a strategy which has identified that anti-retroviral drugs – normally used to treat people infected with HIV – could also be used to prevent others from contracting the virus. Over the past three years Dr Andreas Eisingerich and colleagues have been exploring issues surrounding this medical approach to provide evidence that this preventative HIV method can and will work.
