Press Invitation: Materials Science and Engineering - its nucleation and growth

To coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College's Department of Materials is holding a two day conference to highlight the strategic role of materials science and engineering to industry and society.

Presentations will cover topics ranging from the early history of materials science to materials for nuclear energy and in medicine, and the development of clean energy.

Speakers include:

  • Larry Hench, Professor of Ceramic Materials, Imperial College, on the 'Genetic Basis for Biomedical Materials'
  • Gary Savage, Head of Composites Engineering at BAR Grand Prix on 'Materials in Formula 1'
  • Bill Bonfield, Professor of Medical Materials, Cambridge University, on 'Biomaterials Solutions to Medical Problems'
  • Peter Price, Director of Engineering Defence at Rolls Royce plc on 'Advanced materials in modern aeroengines'
  • John Kilner, Professor of Materials Science, Imperial College on 'Ceramics for Clean Energy'
