Imperial College appoints Pro Rector for Public and Corporate Affairs

Dr Tidu Maini has been appointed to the newly-created post of Pro Rector, Public and Corporate Affairs. Dr Maini will lead a new organisation which will manage the commercialisation of the College's intellectual assets, a fundraising function, alumni relations and corporate marketing communications. He will take up the appointment on 1 January 2002.

Dr Maini is a former student of Imperial, gaining both a BSc in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Rock Mechanics and subsequently went to the University of California, Berkeley as a Post Doctoral Fellow for two years. Since graduating in 1972, he has been involved in College alumni activities and is President of the City and Guilds College Association.

Dr Maini brings a wide range of commercial and strategic management experience to the College. Currently Senior Vice President of SchlumbergerSema, he was, in his position as the Board Member in charge of Corporate Development, responsible for overseeing the sale of Sema plc to Schlumberger earlier this year. Dr Maini also spent three and a half years in key management positions in GEC plc between 1995 and 1998.

Commenting on the appointment, Sir Richard Sykes, Rector said: "We are fortunate to have attracted Tidu Maini to this key position. His experience of the commercial world, combined with his obvious commitment to Imperial College will enhance our ability to remain among the best science, engineering and medical institutions in the world."
