The Department of Computing no longer provides a managed Mac support service. Below are a short set of instructions for configuring a Mac to work on the DoC network.

Initial setup if you currently have a DoC managed Mac

  • Backup all files you want to keep on the Mac. The installation instructions below will wipe all data on the harddrive. CSG can lend a USB Harddisk for this purpose.


  • IMPORTANT: When asked to create a user, specify the same username as your college username. You will make your life much easier if you do this!

  • Obtain Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) installation media - this should have come with your computer.
  • Boot your Mac off the installation media. (Holding down the C key on boot - triggers a CD boot).
  • Follow the installation prompts. (Remember to use your college username)

  • If you have any problems with the preceding steps, please log a job with the ICT Help Desk.
