Compulsory attendance at the induction week, inclusive, for all participants.
Lectures will then be held on Wednesdays from October - December 2016. Not all sessions are relevant for short course students and attendance is not compulsory, but you may find some sessions useful. This course is a blended learning module. As such, the participants can complete it in one of two ways: Through a virtual e-learning resource, or through attendance at lectures on a weekly basis.
This module develops a broad understanding of the evidence and clinical practice of preventive cardiology, with reference to the national and international cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines. The efficacy of lifestyle interventions (smoking, diet and physical activity), medical management of cardiovascular risk factors and the use of cardioprotective medications are explored. A critical appraisal of the evidence for behavioural and social care models is included as well as practical therapeutic applications.
