What is SilverCloud?

SilverCloud is an online package that offers four self-help psychoeducational programmes.  Based on concepts from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the programmes are thematic and provide an interactive aid for you to increase your understanding of the particular problem.

Each programmes comprises a number of modules which you can work through in your own time and at your own pace and can be accessed on your computer, tablet or mobile phone.

They will help you identify and change thought patterns and behaviours that might be having a negative impact on your wellbeing.  The modules will provide you with information and include videos, quizzes and activities to help your learning.

SilverCloud offer four programmes for help with:

  • Depression and low mood
  • Anxious thoughts and feelings
  • Body image
  • Stress

Frequently asked questions

Who will have access to my data?

You will need to use your Imperial College email address.  Administrative staff within the Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice service will have access to email addresses that have used the programme, as will ICT in order to provide technical support.  We do not have access to your use of the content of the programmes.  As this is a cloud-based software provided by a third party, SilverCloud will have access to the data you enter only to provide the service.  SilverCloud will produce anonymised and aggregated data on the usage of the program for the purposes of service analysis, service improvement or research purposes.  Upon completion you will continue to have access to your data for 12 months from when you register.  All data will be subject to compliance with GDPR.

Can I still access the Student Counselling Service?

SilverCloud is not a substitute for meeting with a professional person regarding difficulties you might be having.  We would suggest that if you are having difficulties that are interrupting your ability to enjoy life and to things you wish to do, that you see your doctor.  You are also able to make an appointment to speak with one of our Counsellors.

Participating in the SilverCloud programme is voluntary and does not affect entitlement to accessing Student Counselling or Mental Health Advice within our service.  You may discontinue use at any time.

Can I give some feedback?

We would appreciate any feedback you might have about the programmes and would invite you to send this to us at counselling@imperial.ac.uk.
