The TOTAL Laboratory for Reservoir Physics undertakes experimental research into fundamental apects of reservoir physics, with a particular focus on improved and enhanced oil recovery. There is a strong link with the work of the SWARM group, with laboratory measurements supporting the development of new reservoir monitoring technology applied to both oil and gas fields, and freshwater aquifers. Current and ongoing research is focussed on

  1. Fundamental aspects of spontaneous potential with application to reservoir monitoring
  2. New methods for laboratory and in-situ characterisation of wettability
  3. Improved oil recovery through controlled salinity waterflooding of carbonate reservoirs
