Grand Challenges
The Grand Challenges in Ecosystems and Environment Initiative spans multiple disciplines, bringing together natural scientists, engineers, mathematicians, medics, economists, social scientists, policy makers and other stakeholders from multiple sectors and countries to work on integrated research programmes.
Working across scales and combining theory, observation and manipulative experimentation this initiative aims to develop fundamental science and design innovative solutions to tackle some of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world.
The Challenges
Challenges
Our approaches
GCEE addresses the four challenges through three approaches, all of which combine ecological and evolutionary theory with empirical data and statistical or process based models to understand the natural world and our impacts upon it.
Approaches
Scaling
Summing up the ecological and evolutionary processes that act locally on individuals to understand regional and global patterns
Ecoinformatics and genomics
Integrating genomic and ecological data to understand the natural world
