| Welcome Welcome to the October 2010 issue of the EDU Newsletter, which includes information about new developments and all forthcoming workshops and events run by the Educational Development Unit. In this issue you can read about Dr Frank Harrison's retirement and an exciting workshop programme taking place over the next three months. I would be grateful if you could distribute this information to all relevant staff, postdocs and GTAs. |

Dr Frank Harrison, the EDU's Head of Unit, retired from the College on 30 September. He has made a major contribution to the Imperial community over his 36 years of service, and is going to be missed both within the EDU and beyond. However, the good news is that Frank will be returning to the College on a part-time basis and continuing with a number of his teaching commitments in both the EDU and the Faculty of Medicine. A reception was held for Frank on 07 October at 170 Queen's Gate and was attended by friends and colleagues, both past and present, from across the College. After graduating from the University of Dundee, Frank spent three years as an MRC research scholar in the Department of Physiology at University College London researching his PhD. In 1974 Frank was appointed Lecturer in Physiology at (the then) Charing Cross Hospital Medical School. In 1995 Frank was appointed Senior Lecturer in Physiology and Medical Education and, as Assistant Director of the Medical Education Unit, took a major role in the development of the new MBBS curriculum which was introduced in October 1998. Frank transferred from the medical school to the Educational Development Unit, formerly the Centre for Educational Development (CED), in August 2000, but continues to teach undergraduate medical students. Read Frank's full biography. |
