This Is EngineeringThe Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering took part in the Royal Academy of Engineering's This Is Engineering 2019 campaign, which ran from 4-8 November.

Engineering — including everything we do as electrical and electronic engineers — is at the cutting edge: from robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, to mobile phones, medical technology, advanced sports equipment and driverless cars, shaping the future all around us.

The Royal Academy of Engineering launched This is Engineering to help address the UK’s persistent skills and diversity shortfall. This is Engineering aims to show more young people how it could be an exciting and rewarding path for them in the future.

In 2019 they set us a new challenge: to change the image of the engineer and engineering among the wider public, and counter the narrow stereotype of the profession, one that that lacks diversity: in the disciplines of engineering represented, and in the faces of the people.

Our staff and students volunteered to lend their profiles to the campaign, to share their love of engineering, their inspiration, and help show young people that engineering is for everyone.
