Aaron Carver

Mechanical Engineering, University of Warwick

Aaron previously studied at the University of Warwick, where he graduated with First Class honours - achieving the prestigious IMechE’s ‘Institution Best Student’ award for graduating at the top of his year. Whilst completing his undergraduate degree, Aaron worked part-time as a Systems Developer, and currently works as a consultant for a variety of SMEs - aiding in data analysis and visualisation. With a passion for using analytics and data to drive strategic decisions, he aspires to commence a dynamic career in sustainable finance. Aaron will be embarking on the first stage of this career in October, when he joins HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets division as a Graduate Analyst.

 

Abbas Daruwala

BSc in Marine Engineering, Birla Instritute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Following an undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering, Abbas started his career as a sea-going marine engineer and soon transitioned to the shore side of business which gave him opportunity to gain a holistic understanding of the industry. Whilst his work life underwent a transition from sea to shore, he also observed how the shipping industry was undergoing a transition towards and cleaner and greener future. His desire to be a part of this transition brought him to the SEF course. Moving forward from this, using his deep technical skills and the broad systems thinking, he seeks to be a part of the broader transition towards a more sustainable future.

 

Abdalaziz Mohamed

Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Power Systems), University of Khartoum, Sudan

After studying Power Systems Engineering, Abdalaziz learned that the power issue in Sudan is due to mismanagement of resources and a collaborative effort is essential to tackle the issue holistically; thus, he co-founded an NGO in an effort to bridge the gap between the public and private sector. He likewise worked in the private sector in a prominent commercial group to understand how the private sector works, in an effort to leverage investments from the private sector in Sudan's energy infrastructure. Therefore, Abdalaziz joined the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures to further sharpen his quantitative and qualitative skills in analysing energy technologies.

 

Aitana Ramon Guillena

Energy Engineering with Environmental Management , University of East Anglia

Having graduated as an Energy Engineer, Aitana joined the Sustainable Energy Futures MSc, with the backing of the ScottishPower Masters Scholarship, to consolidate her technical knowledge of sustainable energy systems while further delving into her passion: the economic, social and environmental impacts of energy related regulation and legislation. She strives to support and empower other young female engineers while addressing the challenges associated with upcoming global energy transitions.

 

Ali Amin

Mechanical Engineering, Univeristy of Warwick

After studying Mechanical Engineering and completing his placement year at GE Aviation, Ali decided to explore the puzzle of climate change by pursuing an MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures. Whilst gaining a more strategic perspective on energy issues, Ali also sourced clean-tech businesses with equity-free funding by working part-time with the Greater London Authority. He has now formally accepted an Analyst role within the public sector, looking to influence government decision making in energy and climate change projects. The SEF course supplemented his technical knowledge with political and economic aspects; an experience which will allow him to drive positive changes in society.

 

Amr Mustafa Alwishah

Mechanical Engineering, Cardiff University

After finishing my IB diploma with a 40/45, I moved to Cardiff from Jordan to peruse my mechanical engineering degree. In the final year, I was successfully elected to serve as the Vice President of Welfare and Campaigns to represent over 32,000 students. I was the first Jordanian to secure the position and spent another year in Cardiff advocating for students. I worked closely with the Welsh government and achieved numerous reforms for students. I was very fortunate to receive the Imperial-Bseisu scholarship to complete my Master's study. At Imperial, I was elected as the International Students' Officer. In the long term, my dream is to start my own global renewable energy company. I was very fortunate to receive the Imperial-Bseisu scholarship to complete my Master's study. At Imperial, I was elected as the International students' Officer. In the long term, my dream is to start my own global renewable energy company.

 

Andrea Pollastri

Science - Physics, Amsterdam University College

After a scientific and humanistic education in Milan, I moved to Amsterdam (NL) to pursue a Physics degree at Amsterdam University College. My main work experiences have been for Pomini (TENOVA), an Italian world leading roll grinders manufacturing company, where I was in charge of product commercialisation, and for AMOLF (NWO), Amsterdam’s high-energy Physics research centre, where I conducted a year-long experimental study on the cost-efficiency of bi-facial solar panels. While my main passions include music, sports, and travelling, my great appreciation for nature incited me to devote my time to how it can contribute to a sustainable future, especially in the context of GGR.

 

Anne Charpentier

Masters in Engineering, Ecole Polytechnique

After two years of preparatory classes in Paris, I joined the ranks of Ecole Polytechnique in 2016. After a few months of military training and internships, I started classes in many different fields of study, before specializing in renewable energies. Wanting to continue on this path, I joined the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to finish my fourth year of engineering school. I now hope to continue in this direction professionally, and make a difference and shape tomorrow's energy industry.

 

Benoit Putzeys

Engineering Science, Technical University of Munich

As a part of his undergraduate studies in Engineering Science, Benoit Putzeys completed a five month internship at BMW in Munich to develop cooling systems for Electric Vehicles. During that time, he became interested in environmentally friendly transportation and sustainability in general. This led him to pursue the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to improve his knowledge on how to achieve a clean and economically feasible energy transition. He is particularly interested in using machine learning for sustainable solutions.

 

Bruno Cameran

Chemistry, The University of Nottingham

Throughout his schooling Bruno has always had a strong interest in the sciences and finance, his interest in sustainability was first piqued when learning about the atmospheric chemistry causing climate change. Through studying Chemistry at The University of Nottingham this knowledge was developed, leading him to choose to study Sustainable Energy Futures to broaden his knowledge of sustainable energy technologies and understand the relationships between economics, policy and the energy transition. Studying at Imperial College London has also equipped him with the critical thinking, analysis and interpersonal skills to pursue a career in energy trading starting at RWE Supply and Trading.

 

Cameron Sheehan

After graduating with his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, Cameron worked as a mechanical engineer in the manufacturing industry in South Africa for five years. He chose to pursue the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures programme at Imperial College London after deciding to shift the focus of his career towards tackling energy issues and pushing for the global transition to a decarbonised and sustainable future. His research interests lie at the intersection between technology and policy, and specifically the integration of renewable energy and e-mobility.

 

Camille Soenen

After my two years of prep school, I decided to join the Ecole Polytechnique and specialize in renewable energies. Indeed, after several social experiences (a humanitarian project in India and a 6-month internship in an association), I decided to choose a meaningful career path, and actively participate in the global energetic transition. For my last year of study, I chose to join Imperial College and the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to broaden my knowledges of sustainable energies and enter the professional world.

 

Chuyang Wang

During my undergraduate study in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL, I developed a strong interest in renewable energy. As China’s energy system is undergoing an unprecedented transition but also facing challenges, wishing to gain a better understanding of the energy sector from a global perspective, I decided to join the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London. I will pursue my career in the energy sector and contribute to the shift towards a low carbon economy.

 

Daniel Lopez Garcia

Dual Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Physics, Complutense University of Madrid

Born and raised in Spain, I studied Mathematics and Physics in Madrid where I grasped how the world we live in works: from how an electron behaves to how the universe can be described with simple equations. It was there that I realised that our cosmos, the Earth, has been endangered by none other than ourselves. Quoting Roberts Swan: “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” After working on the digital transformation of oil and gas companies for a year, I enrolled in the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures to contribute to the sustainable energy transition. My aim is to further research in solar energy resources, which I am particularly interested in.

 

Dusit Munkong

I have 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry as a petroleum engineer prior to joining MSc Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College. I am familiar with an upstream operation in the gulf of Thailand. In my free time, I enjoy walking in the park.

 

Dylan Radovic

Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University

A California native, Dylan hails from the southern shores of San Clemente. His passion in sustainable energy began at Arizona State. Despite transferring to NU, Dylan carried forth this passion involving himself in industrial energy efficiency research as well as developing a clean water social enterprise startup. He had chosen to join this MSc to gather a holistic view of today’s energy sector as well as befriend like-minded individuals from across the globe. An ambitious, yet pragmatic individual, Dylan’s interests span sustainable finance and AI, nuclear power and ocean cleanup. He hopes to pursue a career that would ultimately help those who are typically left ‘out-of-the-picture’.

 

Elisa Anderson Vazquez

Energy Engineering, Polytechnic University of Madrid

Elisa Anderson is a proactive Energy Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. After her exchange year at the Technical University of Delft, she decided to stay in the Netherlands working as an R&D engineer at a renewable energy start-up, collaborating in the development of an H2020 project funded by the European Commission. With a strong engineering background, her objective was to obtain a broader understanding of the energy sector, its policy and economics. This led her to join the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures, after which she aims to pursue a career in the electricity market design and policy area.

 

Ellie Raphael

Masters in Chemistry with Study in Industry, University of Sheffield

After graduating from the University of Sheffield with a master’s degree in Chemistry, I worked for Malvern Panalytical, a global leader in advanced measurement and material characterisation, providing technical support to customers and distributors worldwide. I applied for the Sustainable Energy Futures course because I want to pursue a career that drives the transition to a low carbon future. I am particularly interested in understanding how different industries and businesses can navigate towards net zero and what the barriers and rewards might be.

 

Faisal Al Balushi

Mechanical Engineering, University of Colorado Boulder

Born and raised in Oman. Grew up in a family of seven as the second child, lived a life full of joy and adventure in his childhood. Faisal got exposed to technical design and engineering principles from the 6th grade being enrolled in the Royal Guard of Oman Technical College, it paved the path to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the USA, where Faisal got exposed to a new culture and way of thinking. After graduation, Faisal worked in a manufacturing facility for two years in which he experienced real-life work and commitment. After that, he got the chance to study Sustainable Energy in ICL, in which he walks a path towards a healthier and cleaner environment.

 

Foivi Amparioti

Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Moving to the US to complete her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Foivi was exposed to an environment that inspired her to learn more by doing. Although she had completed internships as a mechanical engineer and a turbine physics trainee in energy companies, she was not entirely sure about her next step. During her final year at college, and after taking courses on sustainable engineering, Foivi was motivated to learn more about its applications. Hoping to further improve her technical skills, while learning about the business perspective of the energy sector, Foivi decided to continue her studies at Imperial College London and joined the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures.

 

George Barron

Mechanical Engineering, University of Manchester

Born and raised in London, I have a background in Mechanical Engineering. I was initially doing a four year integrated MechEng Master's degree at the University of Manchester, before realising I wanted to specialise in the renewables sector. I think helping to solve the climate crisis is the best possible application for engineering skills. I therefore decided instead to complete the MechEng Bachelor's degree, before moving to Imperial to do the SEF MSc. It's paid off nicely.

 

Haseeb Usmani

Haseeb Usmani is currently a masters student at Imperial College London. He previously worked in consulting and procurement, which gave him extensive experience in management of goods. Driven by my interest in the renewable energy sector, I chose to join the Msc in Sustainable Energy Futures to further my technical knowledge of low carbon technologies and to learn about energy policy and economics.

Adhi holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). He had 11-years’ experience in the oil and gas sector with a world-leading oil and gas services company, Schlumberger and a UK private oil and gas company, Premier Oil, before joining Imperial College. His last position with Schlumberger is Product and Service Delivery Manager for the Wireline Production Services business unit in Indonesia. He chose to pursue the Sustainable Energy Futures MSc as he sees the development and the transition of the energy sector moving towards more sustainable resources.

Jake Sowe

Energy Engineering with Environmental Management, University of East Anglia

With a long-founded interest in solving climate related issues, Jake enrolled on the MSc in sustainable energy futures to after completing a BEng course in energy engineering with environmental management. Jake is committed to using his skills as an engineer to solve real world energy challenges. He has a particular interest in enabling energy transitions in emerging economies, and how to meet the UN sustainable development goals. He also has a keen interest in energy storage, and how to encourage the uptake of new sustainable technologies.

 

Jasmin Pockrandt

Business studies (MSc), HEC Paris & Rotterdam School of Management

Jasmin holds a previous degree in business from HEC Paris and the Rotterdam School of Management. Being passionate about clean technologies, she gained previous work experience in clean tech venture capital, energy consulting, policy analysis at the European Commission and worked for an agri-tech startup in Ivory Coast. In order to gain a holistic understanding of the opportunities of transitioning towards net zero, she decided to join SEF to complement her economic and policy knowledge with strong technical skills. She is particularly interested in the intersection of energy and agriculture and strives to find solutions to scale up investments into negative emission markets in the future.

 

Josh Layall

Mechanical Engineering, University of Birmingham

Josh is a practical and action-orientated individual and has always possessed a strong interest in the sciences and the natural world. An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering seemed like a fitting choice however his interests in sustainability and the environment were not entirely fulfilled. Therefore, he undertook the Sustainable Energy Futures MSc, particularly because of its multidisciplinary approach. Coming from an engineering background, he was keen to understand how energy economics and policy could be leveraged to accelerate sustainable solutions. Josh has developed career interests in onshore and offshore wind, emerging solar power technologies and hydrogen and energy storage.

 

Lucy Liu

Chemical Engineering, University of Toronto

A degree in chemical engineering has led me to a number of interesting career paths. Having worked in the oil and gas and manufacturing industry for a total of three years, I decided to switch gear to pursue my passion for sustainability and renewable energy. I joined Sustainable Energy Futures for its multi-disciplinary approach to climate change issues and the opportunity to travel around Europe. Luckily, only one of those went down the drain given the circumstances. Here, I was able to explore my interest in human behaviour alongside the other facets of the Net Zero challenge, and I aim to contribute further in creating a consumer-centric low carbon energy future.

Mechanical Engineer enthusiastic about the energy industry. Born and raised in Portugal but moved to the UK 4 years ago for my education. I got into cycling to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Research by cycling to Paris from London last year. Decided to learn Machine Learning for my thesis to challenge myself again this year. I believe gas is the transition, but storage is what will help us achieve our goals.

 

Maria da Silva Cavaco de Aguiar Pedro

During her engineering degree at the University of Exeter, Maria developed a strong passion for global Climate Change issues and Sustainability. That drew her to participate in university projects to raise awareness of these subjects and eventually join the university branch committee of Engineers Without Borders in her final year. Driven by wanting to see a shift in the societal perspectives on these issues, she enrolled in the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to deepen her knowledge on the technical aspects of renewable technologies, but also on the economic and social barriers they have to face. She intends to contribute to the next energy transition in whichever country she goes to.

 

Matthias Durand

After intensive training in mathematics, physics and engineering in the French "Classes Preparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles", Matthias entered Ecole Polytechnique in 2016. Very interested in energy, he then used these experiences to work at the A.T. Kearney Energy Transition. He worked on a research report on Negative Emission Technologies, which was published in September 2019. He also worked for the consulting group. Matthias chose to join MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures to take advantage of the diversity of the domains studied in this course: technology, economics, and politics; and to find the best opportunities to participate in the energy transition.

 

Minnan Ye

Minnan received her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from McGill University, Canada. She found her interest in sustainable energy after conducting several energy research projects at McGill. Then Minnan decided to join the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures in Imperial College. Her main areas of interest include low carbon fuel for transportation and electrochemistry.

 
Mohamed Amine Benchrifa

I was born and raised in Morocco. From a young age, I had a special interest in mathematics and science. Therefore, after finishing my high school, I went to France to start two years of intensive training in mathematics and physics in the French ‘Classes Preparatoires’. I entered the engineering school CentraleSupelec where I improved my technical skills in different engineering fields. I got interested in renewable energies, so I took a gap year to have my first professional experience in this field thanks to two internships at EDF and CNRS. I decided to undertake the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures to gain a better understanding of global energy issues.

 

Nicholas Nabil Tebogo Rawhani

Nicholas Rawhani is a Poet, Electrical Engineer, Community Development Worker, Photographer and Strategist. After graduating at the top of his engineering class at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2017, he moved to the rural Eastern Cape to work on community development projects based in youth empowerment, education and agriculture. Nicholas has a deep passion for the application of appropriate and cutting-edge technologies in the Global South. His passion for the development of sustainable energy systems got him the Commonwealth Scholarship to study a Master's in Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London.

 

Omar Zin Abidine

BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering, The University of Manchester

Having recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a First-Class degree in Aerospace Engineering, I pursued my passion to finding energy solutions for the future. I completed my undergraduate dissertation on suggesting different ways to support decarbonizing the aviation industry from economical and technical standpoint to meet Paris Agreement targets. Analyzing alternative fuels in my study, I strengthened my motivation to study the feasibility of creating these fuels through environmentally and financially sustainable means. To compliment my aerospace industry knowledge, I have work experience in finance and advising to ensure I hold a diverse set of skills.

 

Speed (Man Yuet) Fung

BEng Engineering (Electronic and Electrical), University College London

Having completed my BEng engineering degree from UCL, I was intrigued to explore more about the connections between low carbon technology and electricity grid. I therefore joined MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to better understand the global challenge with a multi-disciplinary approach. My interest lies in electricity transmission & storage and I look to help smoothen the transition towards a more sustainable future.

 

Paloma Gallegos Alvarenga

Paloma completed her undergraduate course in Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Having done an internship in an energy utility and worked on a biomass power plant project in French Guiana, she became passioned about sustainable development and low carbon technologies. Considering the untapped potential of renewable energy in her country, she decided to pursue the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures with the support of an Iberdrola scholarship. She hopes to use the knowledge acquired to face the challenges of transitioning to a more balanced and sustainable energy mix.

 

Rachel Locquet

Engineering, Institut d'Optique

After studying for two years Mathematics and Physics, I have studied for two years in the French engineering school Institut d’Optique. While being a student, I participated in humanitarian work in Sri Lanka, which included giving science classes at schools in rural areas and organising activities for orphans. This trip has made me realise how big an impact electricity access can have on people’s lives and children’s education. I applied to the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures to learn more about the role of renewable energies in sustainable development. In my thesis, I have the opportunity to apply this knowledge to help Sri Lanka in achieving a 100% electrification rate.

 

Ronald Marshall Monterroso Rubi

BSc Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering, Tecnologico de Monterrey

Born and raised in Honduras, Ronald became passionate about sustainable energy during his undergraduate degree in Monterrey, Mexico. After finishing the degree, he returned to Honduras and worked three and half years in the energy sector. His work experience includes contract management and project control of utility scale Solar PV and Wind Farm projects. Ronald chose to pursue MSc Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London to obtain a global perspective of the challenges in the energy sector and learn about areas that could be developed in Latin America such as sustainable transport and distributed generation.

 

Tejo Jehart

Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor

Before joining Imperial, I was a student of Mechanical Engineering at University of Maribor, Slovenia. During my studies, I was a member of the Formula Student team performing anything from exhaust system development to technical leadership. Upon completion of my studies, I worked as a placement Design Engineer at AB Dynamics, Bradford-on-Avon, before starting an MSc at Imperial College, funded by IMechE and Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia. I was born and risen in Slovenia, where the picturesque nature developed my love for hiking, mountain biking and enduro motorbike riding. But above all, I love the thrill of racing.

 

Teresa Irigoyen-Lopez

BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University

Teresa completed a bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University while also pursuing minors in Sustainable Energy and East Asian Studies. Having greatly enjoyed a liberal arts approach to education, she decided to complete the MSc in Sustainable Energy Futures to learn more about the energy sector from an inter-disciplinary perspective. Her experience living in a variety of countries and observing how climate change impacts each region so differently has reinforced her commitment to a just energy system transition through both local and international efforts. Her areas of interest include Urban Energy Systems, Resilient Cities and Distributed Renewables.

 

Yann Munschy

After two years of French classes preparatoire that prepared me for the national engineering competitive exams, I entered Ecole Polytechnique, one of France’s top engineering schools, where I followed a multidisciplinary programme, with a major in mathematics and computer science. I then became strongly interested in the problem of transitioning our society to carbon-free energy sources and thus applied to the Sustainable Energy Futures Master of Imperial college.

 

Ow Kai Rong, Wesley

Wesley's interest in sustainable energy and environmental technology was a culmination of his deep appreciation for the natural world and his fascination with all things engineering. Recognising the increasing demand for fossil fuel-based energy in Singapore, Wesley felt that the field of sustainable energy would be a meaningful way of applying his skills as an engineer to the conservation of the environment. He hopes to contribute to Singapore's transition to a sustainable society and to a future where Singapore can achieve energy security entirely through sustainable energy.
