Central Library refurbishment
This project was to refurbish Level 1 of the Central Library and also include the construction of a service tower which will house air handling plant for Level 1. The project included an extensive refurbishment of Level 1 as well as an extension into the external walkway adjacent to the Queens Lawn. This extension was an integral feature of the project which at ground floor level incorporates the new main entrance, a learning café and a new canopy that extends to the existing Sherfield entrance.
The extension and the refurbishment works provide a dynamic research and learning centre. The intention was to upgrade the study environment by capitalising on the latest digital and wireless technology and by increasing study space for the students.
New chillers were also installed on the roof to serve the Library and Levels 3 & 4 of the Sherfield Building.
These two projects were the 2nd phase of a programme of work which at Phase 1 included the refurbishment of Level 3 for the Humanities Department which was completed in December ‘06.
This project was completed and handed over to the department in July 2008 with defects period ending in 2009.
