Princes Gardens redevelopment
The new Eastside Halls of Residence, with its three student halls mirrors the design of the Southside Residences forming the final closure to the Princes Gardens square development and replaces Linstead Hall which was first built 40 years ago in 1967 and then extended in 1980.
The new Eastside building is a larger building and has greater capacity for student accommodation than Linstead Hall. However its overall construction height is two storeys (approximately 6 metres) less than Linstead Hall. The Residence consists of three adjoining halls which provide over 440 beds mainly single occupancy with a number of twin bedrooms. The ground floor spaces provide a convenience store, two common rooms and a café bar.
As with the construction of Southside this building encompasses maximum use of prefabrication in bathrooms, facades and structural elements. Eastside was completed three weeks ahead of schedule and handed over from the main contractor to the College in August 2009.
This project was completed and handed over to the College in August 2009. The defects period also ended in 2010.
