SUMMARY:Message impossible? Communicating weather information in the digita
 l age
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe final link in the forecasting chain is communicating
meteorological information\, forecasts\, and hazards to end-users. The com
munication link between scientists and end-users is essential to ensure ad
equate action is taken to protect lives and property. To explore the field
of meteorological communication\, speakers from multiple disciplines will
focus their talks on a number of topics including how changing technology
has affected the way we communicate weather\, how different words or grap
hics can affect end-user actions\, and how an end-user-focused approach ca
n help build resilient communities.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting will also pre
sent the findings of a recent survey supported by the Met Office\, in whic
h members of the public were asked for their ideas on what weather forecas
ts might look like in the future\, and what information they would like th
em to contain. Contributions are welcome up until the meeting.\n\n\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nThere will be a drinks reception following the meeting where deleg
ates will have the opportunity to view all shortlisted images from the Roy
al Meteorological Society and the Royal Photographic Society’s Weather P
hotographer of the Year 2017 competition. At the event\, the overall Weath
er Photographer of the Year 2017\, Young Weather Photographer of the Year
2017\, and the runners up from each category will be announced and prizes
awarded.\nREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED | As part of the registration process
you will be asked to provide personal information (name and contact email
address).  Any information you provide to us will only be used by The Roy
al Meteorological Society and appointed representatives. Register now\n\n
\nRemote Participation (CloudCast) (simultaneous audio and PowerPoint pr
esentations) is available at this meeting. Access is free\, requires regis
tration and is open to members and non members.\nThis meeting is part of t
he Royal Meteorological Society National Meetings programme and is support
ed by the Grantham Institute\, Imperial College London\, the Environmental
Physics Group at Institute of Physics\, The Met Office and The Universit
 y of Reading.\n\n\n\n\n
