About the talk

Structural Health Monitoring is an area of research that has extensively developed in recent years. Different techniques, such as fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based on optic fiber, the use of piezoelectric transducers (PZT) based on Lamb waves, hybrid systems and many other, can be used for identify and characterize damages in structures. All these techniques need electronic devices to be applied. In a first research stage, conventional instrumentation can be used at lab, but real scenarios must be taken into account. This talk will be focused on the electronic instrumentation for autonomous SHM systems, based on the use of PZTs, developed by the UPM team in collaboration with the Electronic Design Group of the Basque Country University and the Spanish company Aernnova, specialized in the design and manufacturing of aerostructures and components. The talk will provide details about the system architecture, from the point of view of the HW, SW and network communications, the main characteristics of the system, the operational modes, as well as the obtained results regarding damage detection in structures.
