Imperial College’s annual Education Day is a symposium for staff and students. This year’s theme is transformative learning. In addition to a showcase, workshops and research results from Imperial about Imperial, our keynote speaker is an eminent guest with a special interest in how Higher Education (HE) students handle ‘uncertainty’ and how HE transforms itself.

We are looking at:

  • What do we mean by transformative learning?
  • What are the roles of teachers and learners in the process of transformative learning?
  • How can educational design better support transformative learning?
  • Does it help learners respond flexibly to uncertainty?

The event includes:

  • Our keynote speaker, Professor Ron Barnett, Emeritus Professor of Higher Education at the Institute of Education, London where he was Pro-Director for Longer Term Strategy and author of ‘Realizing the University in an age of supercomplexity’ and ‘A Will to Learn: Being a Student in an Age of Uncertainty’. His presentation is entitled: “This place has changed my life”: student transformation for an uncertain world.
  • Research into Imperial students’ experiences of transformative learning.
  • A showcase of Mini-case study presentations from Imperial College’s staff and students.
  • Your choice of an interactive workshop from a range of transformative learning-related topics. Sign up to workshops on the day.
  • A reception for further discussion and networking.

The event is free and open to all members of Imperial staff and students, however, please register in advance to attend this event (at Wufoo).
