SUMMARY:Enhanced Surface Structure and Composition Capabilities of Low Ener
 gy Ion Scattering
DESCRIPTION:SPEAKER: Professor John O’Connor\, University of Newcastle Sc
hool of Mathematical & Physical Sciences\, University of Newcastle\, UK\nA
BSTRACT:\nLow Energy Ion Scattering has a well demonstrated capability of
providing surface atomic layer composition analysis and near surface analy
sis for a broad range of materials. \nIts particular surface atomic layer
composition sensitivity is unmatched by any other surface analysis techni
que however it does have the capability of achieving much more if the proc
esses of recoil detection\, double scattering\, shadow cones\, negative io
n detection and quantum interference are included as supplementary techniq
ues. \nThis presentation will review applications where each of these pro
cesses were used to directly extract surface layer composition and structu
 re information
