SUMMARY:Public-Private Governance\, Social Value and Innovative Organisatio
 nal Design Conference
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this workshop is to bring together strategy and orga
nization science scholars working on research areas that address an increa
singly diverse set of economic interactions taking place between firms and
public or socially oriented organizations. The spectrum of themes covered
in the workshop include the emergence and performance of novel boundary s
panning organizational arrangements and structures between public and priv
ate sectors\, such as public private partnerships\, collaborative arrangem
ents and social ventures\, and their implications in terms of firm perform
ance\, as well as broader social value and public welfare.\nIn terms of th
eoretical domains\, it aims to draw together and cross-fertilize on the bu
rgeoning set of studies that exist\, albeit\, quite separately\, on public
-private interaction from the perspectives of institutional environment an
d political strategy\, contractual and firm boundary theory\, public entre
preneurship\, as well as innovation and social value perspectives. Some of
the research questions that this workshop aims to address are:\n\nHow does
changing social context and demands for increasing corporate social engag
ement affect organizational design and appearance of new\, multi-layer\, m
ulti-actor relationships?\nWhat are the determinants that explain the emer
gence and rise of novel organizational forms that fuse and cross the well-
established public and private sector boundaries?\nHow are these new forms
of organizations designed or structured?\nAre these novel organizational
forms always value creating? Under which conditions do they impose additio
nal costs or welfare losses to both private and broader society?\nWhat kin
d of value sharing mechanisms are embedded or put in place in these new bo
undary-spanning organizations to respond to broader social needs\, and pub
lic\, as opposed to merely private\, value creation imperatives?\n\nThis w
ill be a one day workshop with a dinner for the participants on the evenin
g prior to the workshop (September 18\, 2014).\nPanellists include Profess
or Mike Wright\, Head of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Deparment\, Pro
fessor Anita McGahan\, Rotman School of Management and Peter Klein\, Unive
rsity of Missouri.\nRegistration:\nA registration fee of US$ 105 per parti
